Our access to multiple cities gives us the ability to roughly estimate which states are the most challenged regarding climate issues. There are a few stereotypes that might jump out at us: Florida for hurricanes, Oklahoma for tornadoes, the West for devastating fires. But when you aggregate all the potential risks, how much of this is really accurate, and how many places seem safe but actually aren't?
Mostly driven by its extreme heat, Arizona is at the highest risk, followed by a number of states in the South which are affected both by heat and potential damage to crop yields: Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, and South Carolina.
Cold climes fare best: North Dakota has very little risk in any areas, and Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan all have roughly similar scores.
However, when considering overall economic risk, there is more money at stake in Florida, so it carries the highest risk. Again, South Carolina, Louisiana, and Arizona don't fare well.
